Intellectual Property Policy

In order to encourage and accelerate the process of new findings, creation of new knowledge by individuals working within the area of their expertise for the benefit of public and society. This can be generally, achieved by publishing research and scholarly work. In other cases, it is necessary to take into consideration about the protection of Intellectual Property (IP) to safeguard the interests of inventors, donors and SHU faculty and researchers to encourage research funding from various academic and industrial sectors.

To create an environment that is conducive for knowledge creation, facilitating the recognition of individual inventor’s efforts, encouraging the researchers to develop and share the useful inventions with society and community. SHU has developed this Intellectual Property Policy for the management of intellectual property originating from SHU.

The objectives of this policy are:

  • To promote, encourage, and facilitate scientific investigations, and creation of new knowledge.
  • To approve a wider understanding about the importance of IP.
  • To establish criteria for protecting the ownership rights of SHU faculty, staff, researchers for the discoveries and innovations made by them.
  • To warrant an effective commercialization of IP and an unbiased distribution of the commercial benefits among SHU staff, researchers, and/or any other stakeholders.
