    Biography

Dr. Afira Waqar received her PhD in Biotechnology from the GC University, Lahore in collaboration with the Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Aga Khan University, Karachi. After PhD, she got an international training from the European Molecular Biology Laboratories-European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), UK. Currently, she is working as an Assistant Professor and a program coordinator of BS, MPhil and PhD in the Department of Biosciences, SHU. Her research interests include understanding the mechanism of biological processes, studying the structure of proteins through structural biology and exploring the impact of mutations to unfold the relationship between genetic and environmental factors contributing to human diseases. This encompasses genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and the identification of therapeutic targets leading to drug discovery.  Additionally, she is involved in optimizing the physicochemical properties of organic compounds to enhance their value and stability for diverse applications. Her research work involves the use of several types of biocomputational tools from DNA to protein and biotechniques.
